Griffith Stainless Steel Exhaust

My truck has a custom exhaust system on it from its early modifications. It's both who knows how old and starting to fall apart. Finally, it passes through the body behind the passenger side rear wheel. At some point, I was travelling across some rough ground and it twisted, so for months it has been knocking against the bodywork when standing in traffic or accelerating. It's really annoying and it scares horses which I have to pass daily. When trying to undo the retaining bolts to move it back to the correct place, they rounded off, so now they will have to be cut off.

After a bit of research I've decided to put a new exhaust on. At first I thought to put a standard one on. They are cheap and last about 3 or 4 years.

The early TD5 Defenders didn't have a Catalytic Converter fitted as the emission standards were met with the fuelling injection system that BMW designed when they took over Land Rover. The early engines were coded as 10p, with the post 2002 ones as 15p. I'm not exactly sure of all the differences, but and EGR valve was fitted to both. I removed the EGR valve on my 10p when I first bought it. They clog up and cause all kinds of running issues as time goes by. Plus they reduce performance and raise the engine temperature. Diesel engines work much better when they are cooled well. That's the main aim of larger intercoolers. Reduce the oil temperature. The bore size of the exhaust system does the same kind of thing, but in a minimal way

Griffiths Performance Exhausts take into account many of the common variances and their exhausts are designed around the needs of the owner. They make a full stainless steel system, made from 304 aircraft grade stainless steel. Mine will have no catalytic converter and will have a wider diameter at the turbo end, with a narrower end at the rear. With the aim to improve engine cooling in hotter climates and reduce weight. Apparently, they have a great sound too, so we'll see.

After a good chat with the owner, I decided to go ahead with a purchase. It will be fitted at the end of the month. £603 including delivery with a lifetime, no quibble guarantee. Fitting will be extra.

Once it's fitted, I'll get a bit of a video of the sound and the fitment.
